Answer: The main change that happened in American global affairs and foreign policy is that the Spanish American War ended a period of isolationism for the U.S. Previously to the war America did not get involved in foreign affairs or wars as much as possible. After and during the war America became a country that felt responsible to lead in foreign issues. Roosevelt’s motto was to “speak softly and carry a big stick.”
