Parallel lines have the same slope so the equation of a line parallel to

y = 1/2x + 13 could be y =1/2x + 10 as they have the same slope of 1/2.

Equations which are perpendicular:

If the slope of one is m then the slope of the perpendicular equation is -1/m.

So for y = 1/2 x + 13 an equation perpendicular could be y= -(1 / 1/2) + 13

= y = -2x + 13
