the Oregon trail was a promise the government made to the people. The government said if you moved to the west we will give you free land. Poor and lower class citizens decided sure why not? They needed wagons and horses. Moving to the west lots of wagons broke down and got attacked by natives or got robbed. Others simply died or drowned in lakes.

The Oregon Trail, was the main means for hundreds of thousands of emigrants to reach the Northwest from the early 1840s through the 1860s. It crossed difficult terrain.
