glucose + oxygen—> ATP + carbon dioxide + water

In this process, organisms like animals and plants turn glucose from food into useable energy called ATP.

This process begins in the cytoplasm, and terminates in the mitochondria. It has three main steps: glycolysis, Kreb’s cycle and the electron transport chain

The ATP produced is used to grow, repair, and perform cellular functions. Carbon dioxide and water are waste products, and are not used.
