Slope intercept form is y = mx + b

[a] x + 3y ≤ 8 becomes y ≤ -
(1)/(3)x +
(8)/(3)

We subtract x from both sides of the equation.

Then we divide both sides of the equation by three.

x + 3y ≤ 8

3y ≤ -x + 8

y ≤ -
(1)/(3)x +
(8)/(3)

[b] x + y ≥ 2 becomes y ≥ -x + 2

We subtract x from both sides of the equation.

x + y ≥ 2

y ≥ -x + 2

Put these into slope intercept form x + 3y ≤ 8 x + y ≥ 2-example-1
