Answer:

Thomas travels 64 miles each hour.

Explanation:

Distance traveled by train = 328 miles

Time taken to travel by train =
5(1)/(8) hr \Rightarrow (5 * 8+1)/(8) \Rightarrow (41)/(8) hr

We know that speed can be formulate as:

\text{Speed = } \frac{\text{Distance Travelled}}{\text{Time Taken}}

Speed is equal the total distance traveled for the one unit time.

In our case, speed is total distance traveled in miles in 1 hour.

So, using above formula:

\text{Speed = } (328)/((41)/(8))\\\Rightarrow 8 * 8\\\Rightarrow 64\ miles/hour

As per definition of Speed, Thomas travels 64 miles each hour.
