Answer:

Frederick Douglass' relationship with his mother was not the usual caring, kind and loving type of a relation that we are used to assuming would be the case. He knew her very briefly and was not particularly attached to her since she wouldn't come visit him very often. She worked as a slave and could only come to see him at night. When she passed away, he felt as if a stranger had died, for he says "never enjoyed, to any considerable extent, her soothing presence, her tender and watchful care..." (14). With Tupac, however, the case is quite different. When he wrote the rap song 'Dear mama', it was meant to appreciate his mother's love and care despite the struggles they had been going through. It is characterized by strong emotions as he realizes how immensely difficult it must have been for her as a single mother. As he says in his song "A poor single mother on welfare, tell me how ya did it . There's no way I can pay you back".
