What is Anne’s purpose in writing her diary?

At the beginning when they started to go into hiding in the anex, Anne had heard on the radio that if anyone can record the events going on and keep journaled the major events, that journals could be collected after the war and they could look back to see what happened.

Her Dad gave that diary to her for one of her birthday's and she often wrote in it to express her hope as well as to document the experiences her, her family and friends had.
