Explanation:

Substitute y = -2 in:

4x - (2 × -2) =8

4x - (-4) = 8

4x + 4 = 8

4x = 4

x = 1

Check:

4x - 2y = 8

4 -2y = 8

-2y = 4

y = -2

Hey there!

4x - 2y = 8

4x - 2(-2) = 8

4x + 2(2) = 8

4x + 4 = 8

SUBTRACT 4 to BOTH SIDES

4x + 4 - 4 = 8 - 4

CANCEL out: 4 - 4 because it give you 0

KEEP: 8 - 4 because it help solve for the x-value

NEW EQUATION: 4x = 8 - 4

SIMPLIFY IT!

4x = 4

DIVIDE 4 to BOTH SIDES

4x/4 = 4/4

CANCEL out: 4/4 (the LEFT side) because it give you 1

KEEP: 4/4 (the RIGHT side) because it gives you the value of x.

NEW EQUATION: x = 4/4

SIMPLIFY IT!

x = 1

Therefore, your answer should be:

x = 1

And possibly y = -2

Good luck on your assignment & enjoy your day!
