The mean of a set of 5 numbers is 7. a) What is the sum of the numbers? b) If the number 1 is added to the list, what is the new sum of the numbers? c) What is the mean of the new list of numbers?

Answer: a)35 b)36 or 31 c)36/6=6 or 31/5=5.2

Explanation:

a) The mean is the sum of all the numbers divided by how many there are, so the inverse to that would be 5*7=35

b) I do not fully understand the question, if it is added as the 6th number, than 36, if it is substituted in for one of the 5 then 31.

c) I have already mention that the mean is the sum/how many #s, so in the case of 36: 36/6=6 or 31/5 =5 1/5=5 2/10=5.2
