y = x + 3 → (2)

Substitute y = x + 3 into (1)

2x + 2x + 6 = 38

4x = 32 ( divide both sides by 4 )

x = 8

Substitute x = 8 into (2) for corresponding value of y

y = 8 + 3 = 11
