Answer: Progressives, such as Theodore Roosevelt, wanted to regulate big business, which he made a top goal of his administration. Because of this, Congress passed the Pure Food and Drug Act in 1906 due to the increasing problem of rotting meat and other toxic foods on store shelves. Despite Roosevelt was an avid hunter, he was also an extreme conservationist. He made this statement true by doubling the amount of national parks and opened up 51 bird sanctuaries. However, the main characteristics of average Progressives were to work on reform, such as reforming work places by raising minimum wage, or protest for better working conditions. Another kind of reformers were muckrakers, or people who publicized the terrible conditions of society. For example, tenements, which were overcrowded, likely spreading disease. One infamous muckraker was Jacob Riis.

Hope this helped!
