2) Mean number of rooms = 2.825

Explanation:

Complete Question

A council review the number of bedrooms in 40 houses located in the same area . The table shows the information gathered

1)Find the modal average number of the bedrooms.

2) Work out the mean number of bedrooms.

Number of Bedrooms | Frequency

1 5

2 10

3 15

4 7

5 3

Solution

The mode is the variable that occurs the most in a given distribution. That is, the variable with the highest frequency.

For this distribution of modal number of rooms is the number of rooms that has the highest frequency amongst the 40 houses surveyed.

The highest frequency is 15 and the number of bedrooms that correspond to that is 3.

Modal value = 3

2) The mean is the sum of variables divided by the total number of variables

Mathematically,

Mean = (Σfx)/(Σf)

Σfx = (1×5) + (2×10) + (3×15) + (4×7) + (5×3)

Σfx = 113

Σf = 5 + 10 + 15 + 7 + 3 = 40

Mean = (113/40) = 2.825 bedrooms.

Hope this Helps!!!
