A circular fountain has a diameter of 8 feet there is a flower garden planted around the fountain. if the garden extends 12 feet beyond the fountain what is the area of the flower garden

Diameter of the fountain =8 inches

  • Therefore Radius of the fountain, =8/2=4 Inches

The flower garden extends 12 feet beyond the fountain, therefore:

  • Radius of the flower garden=4+12 =16 Inches

Let the fountain be the inner circle with radius r and the larger circle which includes the garden have a radius, R. Then:

Area of the flower garden
=\pi (R^2-r^2)


=\pi (16^2-4^2)\\=240\pi\\=753.98$ square feet
