Alan grows tomatoes in his greenhouse. He uses a liquid fertiliser to help increase his yield. The instructions on the fertiliser state, "Dilute 2 capfuls of fertiliser into a watering can containing 5 litres of water". How much fertiliser does he need for 10 litres of water? Also - How much water does he need for 6 capfuls of fertiliser?

Answer:

4 capfuls of fertilizer

15 liters of water

Explanation:

The instructions state that a fertilizer/water ratio of 2 capfuls: 5 liters should be used.

Following that ratio, the amount of fertilizer required for 10 liters of water is:

(F)/(10)=(2)/(5) \\F=(20)/(5) = 4\ capfuls

The amount needed is 4 capfuls of fertilizer.

The amount of water required for 6 capfuls of fertilizer is:

(6)/(W)=(2)/(5) \\F=(30)/(2) = 15\ liters

The amount needed is 15 liters of water.
