From the diagram FG is adjacent to 46° and EG is the hypotenuse.

Using the cosine ratio in the right triangle

cos46° =
(adjacent)/(hypotenuse) =
(FG)/(EG) =
(FG)/(7)

Multiply both sides by 7

7 × cos46° = FG , thus

FG ≈ 4.86 ( to 2 dec. places )
