Answer:

s = 36

Explanation:

In equations our aim is to find the value of the letter. We have to do this by rearranging the equation and getting all the numerical values to one side and the non-numerical values to other side but we must remember that if complete an operation only on one side then the whole equation has changed.

(1)/(3) s + 14 = 26

→ Multiply the whole equation by 3 to get rid of the fraction

s + 42 = 78

→ Minus 42 from both sides to isolate s

s = 36

→ We should substitute s = 36 back into the equation to check if our solution is correct, if we get 26 on both sides then our solution is correct.

(1)/(3) s + 14 = 26

→ Substitute in the value

(1)/(3) × 36 + 14 = 26

→ Simplify

12 + 14 = 26

→ Simplify

26 = 26

Our solution is correct

Answer:

s = 36

Explanation:

So what you do is isolate the s.

1. Subtract 14 from both sides of equation. You should have:

1/3s = 12

2. To isolate the s, you multiply by 3 on both sides to get rid of the fraction on the left side. You should have:

s = 36

To verify, plug into original equation:

1/3*(36) + 14 = 26

1/3 * 36 = 36/3 = 12

12 +14 = 26

We can verify.
