Alicia is in charge of getting tickets for the chemistry club to go to the science museum. Forty students and 4 chaperones plan to go on the field trip, but the club has only saved $372. She plans to ask the science museum for a discount rate with chaperones paying $5 more than students. How much will a chaperone ticket cost if the science museum provides the discount?

Answer:

A chaperone ticket costs $13.

Explanation:

Let a student ticket cost x.

Then a chaperone ticket costs x + 5.

The tickets for 40 students cost 40x.

The tickets for 4 chaperones cost 4(x + 5).

The total cost equals $372.

40x + 4(x + 5) = 372

40x + 4x + 20 = 372

44x = 352

x = 352/44

x = 8

A student ticket costs $8.

A chaperone ticket costs x + 5 = 8 + 5 = 13.

A chaperone ticket costs $13.

Answer:

$8

Explanation:

44 tickets where 4 of these = $5 more = +20

372-20 = 352

352/44 = 8

Answer $8

This is because Chaperones are paying only $20 more than everyone else and altogether there were 44 paying field study tickets accounted for.
