  1. Answer: Using the Pythagorean Theorem

Explanation:

The Pythagorean theorem states that a^2+b^2=c^2.

For 51, Here would be the step by step (you would do the same thing for 52, follow the formula)

6^(2) + 3^(2) =c^(2) \\36+9= c^(2) \\45=c^(2) \\√(45) =\sqrt{c^(2) } \\c= 6.7

For 53 (and 54), c is already provided. Instead of adding, do this (again, follow the formula):

a^(2) + 3^(2) = 7^(2) \\a^(2) + 9 = 49\\a^(2) + 9 = 49\\a^(2)= 40\\\sqrt{a^(2)} =√(40) \\a= 6.32

I hoped this had helped.
