ESSENTIAL QUESTION: Why do people create, structure, and change governments?

Scenario: Due to budget cuts, teaching and administrative positions have been reduced. Therefore, our school is now being led by a principal on the other side of the county. He has quickly changed our school policies and implemented the following rules:

1. Uniforms are mandatory for all students. Every time a student breaks the dress code, he/she is responsible for paying a fine of $5.00.

2. All textbooks must be purchased by students.

3. All students are required to pay a flat fee of $50 at the beginning of the year for all photocopied materials.

4. Any personal items students bring on campus are subject to use by any faculty member or administrator, including cell phones, food, drinks, electronic devices, and fashion accessories. Under no circumstances will faculty or administrators be required to reimburse students for any such use.

5. Student complaints must be made in person in the new principal’s office between the hours of 10 AM and 2 PM, Monday through Friday.

6. Written complaints will be rejected.

7. Failure to comply with the new rules will result in harsh sanctions.

Answer the following questions:

1. How do these new rules make you feel?

2. What is going to be your response to these new rules? Why?

3. Who should be in charge of making the rules for your school? Explain why.

4. Think about how similar the above example is to how the British ruled the colonists in the 1700s. What was it about being ruled by the British that made the colonists want to break away from them and form their own government?

Question:
Why do people create, structure and change governments?
Ans) I feel that people find a need to create and structure governments for the good of themselves and others. A government takes care of the region and manages its affairs, while this is all good, some people find other forms of government better than one or just don’t like the way they are being dealt with, therefore they want to change a government for the good of themselves and people with similar opinions. This sometimes causes revolutions and wars between people and governments or people and people.

(Answer the following questions)
1. These new rules make me feel out of place because these are going to be hard to adapt to, given that this is a whole new principal. It will take a while to understand and implement these rules as they are very strict and harsh, both on the students and the parents. These rules make me feel that I need to change schools and move to a better one.

2.I would explain to my parents what these rules are bringing upon them and us as students, it just becomes more of a burden for everyone. I, along with other students would go in person to meet this principal and to discuss the advantages and disadvantages of this system on their side as well as ours.

3. The person who should be in charge of making the rules should be the ministry of education (in the UAE we have the ministry of education which is responsible for the success, prosperity and rules of all schools in the country) (in other countries it could be different) so the answer for this question varies from country to country or state to state

4. The above scenario is very similar to the way the British ruled the colonists. They would be harsh and put a lot of taxes. They wouldn’t listen to any complaints and would force people to work.
Just like when the British came to North America. The North Americans were actually right to protest and go against their leaders.

Hope this helps! I’m just a seventh grader so yeah

Answer:

1.) These rules make me feel like i don't matter and make me want to transfer schools.

2.) I will rebel then when I'm fed up with the rules then I will go to my parents and file a transfer to another school with fair rules.

3.) I think a principle that is actually there at the school should make the rules because with a principle that is not there there is literally no one to count on to make fair rules that will be followed.

4.) Tyranny.
