As you can see the shape we're working with here is a pyramid and we must first understand that the 4 sides of a pyramid are triangles and the base of the pyramid is a square.

As shown in the picture, the cut is going horizontally through the same place the base is, so therefore, the shape the cross section would make would be a square. (c)

Second question:

Same shape; different size.

We're still working with a pyramid here, just that the base is bigger.

We can see how that the cut is going vertically through the middle of the triangle, parallel to it's side, which I mentioned earlier is a triangle

Therefore, the shape of this cross section would be a triangle. (a)
