The height of a cone is half the diameter of its base. If the cone’s height is 4 inches, what is the cone’s volume to the nearest cubic inch?

Explanation:

Given height of cone = 4 inches

Given height of cone is half of diameter of base of cone

If D is diameter, then

4 inches = 1/2 D

=> D = 8 inches

Radius for any circle is half of diameter of circle.

Thus for given cone

radius = 1/2 D = 1/2 * 8 = inches.

Area of circle is given by
\pi r^2 where r is radius of circle.

Thus area of given base of cone is given as below


\pi 4^2\\=> 3.14 *16\\=>50.24

We know that volume of cone is given by

volume = 1/3(area of base * height)

Thus,

volume of given cone = 1/3(50.24)*4 =66.98 cubic inches

volume of cone in nearest cubic inches is 67 .
