The probability of a student to hit any small circle is 4.66 %.

Explanation:

In order to determine the probability of the students to hit the small circles, we need to calculate the are of the rectangle and the area of each circle. These are shown below:

area circle = pi*r² = pi*(3)² = 28.26 in²

area rectangle = 35*52 = 1820 in²

Since there are three circles and the students can hit any of those the probablity of hitting them is given by the area of one circle multiplied by 3 and divided by the area of the rectangle.

p = [(3*area circle)/(area rectangle)]*100%

p = [(3*28.26)/1820]*100 = 4.66 %
