the general equation would be: y= -1/2x + 17/2

first you want to solve for the slope (m): you wanna do delta y (change of y ) over delta x (change of x)

so it goes like (11-9)/(-5-(-1)) and you get -1/2

then you want to solve for the y intercept (b)

so you plug in one of the point that you were given, in this case I am using (-1,9)

so now the equation looks like 9 = 1/2 +b then solve for b and you get b=17/2
