The National Government, or the Federal Government, has been set up into 3 different branches. The Executive, which is to enforce the laws, the Legislative, which is to create the laws, and the Judicial is to interpret the laws. Checks and balances was created in order to prevent one of these branches from taking complete power. The Nat. Government made these branches after they got rid of the Articles of Confederation, and wrote the U.S. Constitution and the U.S. Bill of Rights.
