Your bill at a restaurant is $35.00. There is an 8% meals tax (sales tax). How much is the tax? You want to leave a 20% tip. You should calculate the tip on the $35.00 (not the cost after the tax). How much is the tip? What is the total bill?

Answer:

$44.8

Explanation:

The tip:

35*0.2=$7

The total bill:

35*8% = 35*0.08 = 2.8

35 + 2.8 +7 = 44.8

(I added 35 for the price of the actual lunch, and the 7 for the tip)

Alternatively, you can just add the 8% and the 20% and the 100% (for the lunch itself), and then multiply the $35.

8%+20%+100%=0.08+0.2+1= 1.28

1.28*35=$44.8
