• Simile
A figure of speech that is based on comparison it can be identified when the comparison uses the word (like or as) in a sentence
Example:
-The eats like a dog.
-He is as big as a house.
• Metaphor
It’s also a figure of speech based on comparison however it refers to one thing by mentioning another it has a rhetorical effect (hidden comparison)
Example:
-My sister is the black sheep of the family.( it’s a metaphor because she is not black nor is she a sheep)
-He is a shinning star.( it’s a metaphor because he is not a star )
• Personification
A figure of speech that gives human qualities to an inhumane object
Example:
- The tall Grass dances in the wind ( Its a personification because grass is not human therefore it can’t dance)
•Hyperbole
A figure of speech that is not to be taken literally as it consists exaggerated statements.
Example:
-It’s boiling hot (the level of warmth experienced is exaggerated)
