Miep Gies (and the other helpers) went to great lengths to help the Frank family before and during their hiding in the annex.

In one of her interviews, she said she was glad to help the families hide because she was extremely concerned after seeing what was happening to the Jews in Amsterdam. Every day, she saw trucks loaded with Jews heading to the railway station, route to Nazi concentration camps. She felt extremely bad seeing all these people suffer and wanted to offer some help.
