The expression to be written is 4x - (x-3y)

Now what she wrote was 4x - 3 -y

Her mistake was that she was supposed to multiply the subtraction symbol preceding the bracket with every term inside the bracket.

Thus the correct thing she would have written is;

4x - (x -3y) = 4x - x + 3y

4x - x + 3y is the equivalent expression to 4x - (x-3y)
