9. To the nearest cubic foot, the cylindrical natural gas storage tank shown below holds 2261 cubic feet of gas with a diameter of 12. (The figure may not be drawn to scale.) To the nearest cubic foot, what is the approximate volume of an equally tall tank if it has a diameter of 24.0 feet?

a. 9044
c. 18,088
b. 9029
d. 9054

Answer:

a. 9044

Explanation:

The equation to find the volume of a cylinder is V=πr²h

So to find the height you plug in the values and solve.

2261=π×6²h

2261=3.14×36×h

2261=113.04h

2261÷113.04 to isolate the variable

20.0017693=h

So now you plug in the height for the other tank and multiply the height by 3.14 and 144.

After that you get 9044.

Explanation:

Step 1: Find the height of the first cylinder

2261 = \pi * (6^2) * h

2261 / 36 = \pi * 36 * h / 36

62.805...\pi = \pi * h / \pi

19.99... = h

Step 2: Find the volume of the other cylinder

V = \pi * (12)^2 * (19.99)

V = \pi*144*19.99

V = \pi2878.56

V = 9043.262...

Answer: Option A, 9044
