Answer:

(31)/(76)

Explanation:

We know that a cyclist wanted to ride
9(1)/(2) miles but only managed to travel
3(7)/(8) and we want to know what fraction he actually travelled so we have to divide the two fractions so

3(7)/(8) ÷
9(1)/(2)

→ First convert to improper fractions

(31)/(8) ÷
(19)/(2)

→ Because it's dividing fractions we have to remember the rule of flipping the second fraction so then it becomes a multiplication

(31)/(8) ×
(2)/(19)

→ Simplify

(31)/(76)

So the cyclist had travelled only
(31)/(76) of his planned trip
