Explanation:

To Find the area of the shaded region, first since the shape is made up of a rectangle with a circle inside it, you have to first calculate the area of the rectangle. Secondly you have to calculate the area of the circle. To get the area of the shaded portion, subtract the area of the circle from the area of the rectangle.

Length of the rectangle = 21 ft, breadth of the rectangle = 14 ft, diameter of the circle = 14 ft

Area of rectangle = length × breadth = 21 × 14 = 294 ft²

Area of circle = π × diameter² / 4 = π × 14² / 4 = 154 ft²

Area of shaded region = Area of rectangle - Area of circle = 294 - 154 = 140 ft²
