A circular logo has a 50 degree sector shaded orange and a 160 degree sector shaded blue. The radius of the logo is 6 inches. What is the total area shaded orange or blue?

Explanation:

Area of a sector is given as
(\theta)/(360) *\pi r^(2)

r is the radius of the sector

theta is the angle substended by the sector

For the sector shaded orange, its area is expressed as;


(50)/(360)*\pi 6^(2)\\ = 5\pi in^(2)

For the sector shaded blue, the area is expressed as;


= (160)/(360) *\pi (6)^(2) \\= 16\pi in ^(2)

Total area shaded orange or blue = area of the sector shaded orange + area of the sector shaded blue

= 5πin²+16πin²

= 21πin²
