Susan buys the items listed below at a grocery store.

* 2 packages of chicken priced at $15.35 per package
* 1/2 pound of broccoli priced at $3.18 per pound
*1 gallon of milk priced at $5.29 per gallon

There is no sales tax on the food she buys. Susan pays for the items and receives $2.77 in change. What amount of money did Susan use to pay for the items?

Answer:

So the total amount she payed is $40.35 with the change of $2.77.

Explanation:

First you would multiply the price of the item by how many items you are purchasing, like you would multiply $15.35 by 2. Since there are two of that item. Which is $30.7. Same for the next one, but 1/2 is 0.5. So since 1/2 a pound is less than 1 pound you would divide the whole price by half. So 3.18 divided by 2= $1.59. So that answer $1.59. Then for the last one you have one gallon of milk so you multiply that by 5.29. So that answer is $5.29. Finally you add it all up and that is your answer. So the total is $37.58. But then you have to find how much she payed. So you add it all up PLUS the change. So $37.58 + $2.77= $40.35. So the total amount she payed is $40.35 with the change of $2.77.

Hope this helped!
