Answer:

Land and water heat up at different rates. The hot land makes the air above the land hot too. When the air is hot, it rises. Then the cooler air on top of surrounding water rushes in to replace the hot air. This imbalance in heating creates strong monsoon winds, which blow across much of the Indian subcontinent.
