Humans have relied on biofuels since they discovered fire. Biofuels are organic materials from plants and
animals. Wood, crops, and landfill mass can all be used to create blofuels. For centuries, blomass-any organic
matter, but mostly wood and crop waste-was burned to create heat. Today, blomass is used for creating the
energy we use for heat and cooking. Biomass is also used to create natural gas for fueling cars. Biomass emits
methane gas as it decomposes. That gas can be used to create energy or can be burned to create heat. Biofuels
are renewable resources. That means that they are relatively easy to replace.
