Explanation:

The product of the original numbers: xy

The product of the altered numbers (.75x)(.5y), or 0.375xy

The product has decreased by 1 - 0.375, or 0.625, or 62.5%

Answer:

Original product:

P1 = a x b

Decreased product:

P2 = a x (100 - 20)/100 x b x (100 - 60)

= a x b x 80/100 x 40/100

= a x b x 8/25

=> P1/P2 = 8/25

or

P1 is decreased by: 1 - 8/25 = 17/25 = 68%

Hope this helps!
