Continental waters are classified into two categories Lentic and Lotic. A Lotic Ecosystem has flowing waters, such as creeks,

streams, rivers, springs, brooks and channels. A Lentic Ecosystem has still waters such as; ponds, marshes, ditches, reservoirs,
and lakes. The ecosystem of Lentic and Lotic waters includes biotic (living) interactions between plants, animals and micro-
organisms, and abiotic (nonliving) physical and chemical interactions.
