x^2 - 5x + 6 factors into

(x - 3)(x - 2)

-3 and - 2 must multiply to 6 (they do) -3 * -2 = 6

-3 and -2 must also add to - 5. They do. -3 - 2 = - 5

So the factors are correct.

x - 3 = 0

x - 3 + 3 = 0 + 3

x = 3

x-2 = 0

x -2 + 2 = 0 + 2

x = 2
