the x-axis is the horizontal plane on the graph. the y-axis is the vertical plane on the graph. every coordinate has both a x and y point.

for you the x would be -8 and the y would be 7. first, you would go accross the x-axis to -8 and then go up to positive seven. you would be in the fourth quadrent in the graph. then you would do the same to the other pair. remember, (x,y)
