Jimmy wants to make sure his bed is centered against the wall in his room. The wall is 114.5 long. The bed is 36 inches wide. If the bed is 25 inches from the left wall, is it centered?

Answer:

Center of the room = 114.5 /2 = 57.5 inches

Bed is 25 inches from wall, but that is the edge of the bed so we must add half of the beds width to the 25 inches and see if it equals the number above.

25 + 36/2 = 43 inches

No the bed is not centered.
