A street vendor sells two types of newspapers, one for $.25 and the other for $.40. If she sold 100 newspapers for $28.00, how many newspapers did she sell at $.25?

If he sold 80 of the 0.25 then that would be 16 dollars. And that way we know that he only sold 10 dollars of the 40 cent ones. If he used any other amount it wouldn't make any sense. Also, sry i cant rly answer this because I didn't understand it either. :(

Explanation:

.25x + .4y = 28

also

x + y = 100

so y = 100 -x

substitute

.25x + .4(100 -x) = 28

.25x + 40 - .4x = 28

-.15x = -12

x = 80

so y = 20

He sold 80 of the 25 cent and 20 of the 40 cent
