Why does Romeo blame himself for Mercutio's death?

Mercutio and Benvolio went to the party because of him.
Romeo was holding Mercutio back so he could not defend himself.
Tybalt was really trying to kill Romeo; Mercutio was an innocent victim.
Mercutio was killed with Romeo's sword.
