Explanation:

Let the original price of the skateboard be x

selling price = one third off the original price = $36

x - (1/3x) = 36


(x)/(1) - (x)/(3) = (3x-x)/(3) = (2x)/(3)


(2x)/(3) = 36\\2x = 108\\x = (108)/(2) = 54

∴ x = 54
