for the first problem:

the equation is x+40=90 (degrees) because since there is a little square, that means that angle is 90 degrees. Since it has been split we can use algebra to solve it. x=50 degrees. They are complementary angles because the add up to 90 degrees.

second one: x= 180-62 degrees or x+62=180 degrees. Since this one is a straight line and all straight lines equal 180 degrees, we can use the same algebra logic and put in 62 degrees. x=118 degrees, and the angles are supplementary because they add up to 180 degrees.

hope this helped!

Answer:

Question 1: x=50°

Question 2: x=118°

Explanation:

A right angle has a total of 90 degrees

a straight line has a total of 180 degrees

Question 1:

The first problem is an example of a complementary angle. To work out the value of x you would need to Minus the angle of 40 from the total of 90, this gives you 50. This is because question 1 is a right angle and so is 90°, also by subtracting the angle form the total of 90 you are isolating the value of x.

1) Minus 40 from 90.

90-40=50°

Question 2:

The second question is an example of a supplementary angle. To work out the value of x in the second question you would minus the angle of 62 from the total of 180, this gives you 118. This is because question 2 is a straight line and so has a total angle of 180°, also by subtracting the angle from the total we are isolating the value of x.

1) Minus 62 from 180.

`180-62=118°
