the 2 small squares on the top and bottom have a surface area of 1 so 1+1=2

then the rectangle or one of the sides has a surface area of 2 because 2*1=2

so, since there are 4 sides you would multiply 2*4 = 8 so then you would add the top and bottom to 8 which would get you 10m^2.
