Why was the citizenship clause so important in the 14th Amendment? Weren’t all people who were born in the United States at the time considered citizens of the US anyway?

Answer:

the clause was so important because it allowed minorities who lived in the U.S. to officially be considered citizens. No, before this clause not everyone was considered citizens even if they were born in the U.S.Only whites were considered citizens before the amendment.
