What is the value for x when solving the equation –x + (–1) = 3x + (–5) using alegbra tiles?

Answer: x = 1

Explanation:

–x + (–1) = 3x + (–5)

−x−1−3x=3x−5−3x

−4x−1=−5

Add 1 to both sides.

−4x−1+1=−5+1

−4x=−4

Divide both sides by -4.

x = 1
