You are subtracting fractions. To do this you must have a common denominator. Then subtract the numerators.

In your question, the denominators (expressions on the bottom) are ALREADY THE SAME, because (x+2)(x+1) is the same as x^2+3x+2.

So to subtract, keep the denominator and subtract the tops:

x - 1

The result can be written in either factored form or standard form. The answers are equivalent. See image.
