In the union there were 24* states and in the confederacy there were 11 states. These 11 states are: Texas, Arkansas, Louisiana, Tennessee, Mississippi, Alabama, Georgia, Florida, South Carolina, North Carolina and Virginia.

Note: only 20 of the states in the union were free, the other 4 states still had slavery, but didn't leave the union.
